Al Gore Announces 2008 Concert for a Climate in Crisis

We know anything "Made in China" comes with a bigger price tag than what we're charged at the register. China's export of goods manufactured in its coal plants have made it the biggest producer of carbon emissions on the planet. Sadly, it is often hard to find products made anywhere else; even the "eco-friendly" ones like canvas shopping bags or compact fluorescent light bulbs come from there.

So when you see something "Made in India," it's tempting to rejoice that you have an alternative option. Unfortunately in this case, different does not mean better. India's manufacturing industry has earned it a place among China, the United States, Russia and Japan as the top five carbon emitters in the world!

Former U.S. Vice-President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore is looking to help change that. On December 7, 2008, musicians, celebrities and other environmental activists will gather in Mumbai for Live Earth India. Co-founded by Gore and Executive Producer Kevin Wall, Live Earth is a non-profit organization which started raising awareness and resources in the fight against climate change on 7-7-07, staging concerts on all seven continents within one 24-hour period.

Now the Live Earth spotlight is on India.

"India will be among the leading powers of the global economy in the coming decades," says Gore. "As a democracy that is looked up to by many nations, especially for its commitment to inclusive growth for its diverse peoples, India has a major role to play in leadership by example for the climate crisis and sustainable development."

The vision for the future Live Earth is hoping to help realize in India is encouraging the country's commitment to producing all of its electrical energy from clean and renewable resources within 10 years.

Proceeds from Live Earth India go to the Lighting a Billion Bulbs Campaign and Climate Project India. For the most up-to-date information on performers, tickets, and TV and internet broadcasts for the December 7th event, go to LiveEarth.org.
