Modern Solutions for Global Warming

They may sound crazy, but...

Do you want high-tech solutions to the problem of global warming? You aren't alone. Here are five ideas to give you an idea of what appears to be the next scourge of the planet.

Volcanic Dust: Blasting volcanic type dust into the atmosphere to block out the sun and cool off the earth would probably work, but the problem would be having to feed the atmosphere continuously with volcanic dust. Also, everyone would be very dirty, and it may take longer than three minutes in the shower to clean off.

Solar Umbrella: This technique would synthetically do what natural volcanic dust does. It is estimated it would require 20 million launches over 30 years to deploy 16 trillion refracting disks which would block out the sun and cool the planet. Read that again without laughing, and realize if everyone threw a handful of dust in the air, it would accomplish the same thing.

Carbon Capture: This method consists of taking all the carbon emissions from different industries and storing them anywhere there is room. This would cool the planet, but there is a downside. It is estimated if the stored waste gasses began to leak, the entire planet's ecosystem would change.

Artifical Trees: They look like football goal posts and they essentially have radiator fins between the posts. These capture CO2 from the atmosphere, which can be stored anywhere. But this technique has the same potential problem as the Carbon Capture method.

The Geritol Effect-Ships: They would dump iron ore dust into the oceans waters which would cause a serious bloom of algae, and the algae would absorb tremendous amounts of carbon dioxide. In theory, this could cool the planet, but it might also warm up the oceans and cause localized species to become extinct. Whales would probably love the smörgåsbord of ocean critters who would then come around and feed on the algae.

It seems to me the next scourge of the planet might be implementing one of these cures for global warming. However, I do like the Geritol Effect because it seems the best idea so far, and anything good for the whale population is good for me as well!
